Title: A leopard never changes its spots
Pairing: Juntoshi, very, very slight Aimiya, Sho/Jun/Aiba as brothers.
Rating: up to NC-17, but PG-13 most of the time
Warning: shape shifter AU?
Summary: Jun was just doing his job when the evil caught him and the aggressive dog bit him. He wasn't able to tranform into his human shape again, and his brothers weren't around immediately, so he got carried away by a nice veterinarian who promised to take care of Jun. But he had to find a way to get back home, just that this veterinarian was really nice, and he wanted to stay, just not in his animal shape, but how should he do this? And then there was the evil and their missions, how should he tell the veterinarian about it?

Jun woke up late at night when something bumped against the terrace door. He had lost orientation for a moment, till he remembered that he was in Satoshi’s house. This strange vet, who took him home to take care of his wound. Jun stood up. The burning pain on his right side was still there, but it was already getting better. He stumbled a bit and sat at the terrace door.
He tried to change into human, but it wasn’t possible. He was stuck in his cat body. He could see the two raccoons sitting in front of the terrace, one bumped his paws against the window.
“I am already here,” Jun grumbled. The only ones who understood him, where his fellows, and they had found him.
“Sorry.” Jun could see something like a smile around Masaki’s snout. “We get you out of there, I promise,” he said.
The raccoon right next to him leaned on his rear legs and put one foreleg on his hip and the other scratched his belly. “I think we can’t break the door, we need to find another way to get into the house, or to get you out,” Nino said.
“Nino, stop acting like a human,” someone scolded him and Jun could see the owl landing right next to the raccoons, his wing giving Nino a smack on his head.
“Ouch,” Nino pouted, but Sho ignored him.
“Can you transform?” Sho wanted to know.
“Would I be here, when I would be able to?” Jun answered.
“Of course not,” Sho let out a sigh.
“Listen guys, this is a vet. Maybe it’s the best for me to stay here, till I am healthy and able to get back to my human shape. He can help me after all.” Jun didn’t know why he said that, because he should have fled from here, but something made him wish to stay a little longer.
“Do you really think that this is a good idea?” Masaki wanted to know.
“I am not much of a help right now with this wound, and when the evil comes, I am saver here. No one expect me to be here,” Jun explained.
“Do you really think they’ll come to get us?” Masaki sounded afraid, and the last thing Jun wanted, was to scare Masaki. Even though he was the younger one, Masaki had always been the weaker one between them, and he was more afraid of something could happen to them than Jun had been.
“I don’t know, but for now it’s the best for me to stay here,” Jun said again. He could feel Sho’s piercing look resting on him.
“As soon as you are possible to change your shape, I will come to get you,” he said. Sho had always had the ability to read his brothers. Already when they had been children, he exactly knew when someone of them had planned something. Maybe this happened because he had been in charge for them pretty early since their parents had disappeared when Jun had been a baby.
“Yes, sir,” Jun chuckled and he could see Masaki’s snout turning into a grin. His human smile was addicting, but his raccoon smile was something weird, but in a weird way also really cute.
“He believes he is the master, but in the end he is just Sho-chan, right?” Masaki said with a laugh.
Sho rolled his eyes before his head snapped upwards. “The guy’s awake. We should go now. We will visit you every evening, Jun. And don’t you dare to miss one evening without talking to us,” Sho said strictly.
When Jun had been younger he had often acted stubborn to Sho’s strict way, but now he had learned to stay calm. He smiled and licked over his lips. “Of course, brother.” He knew that Sho only wanted their best, and he was really concerned about them all. He had even kind of adopted Nino to their family. That there had been more between Masaki and Nino wasn’t what Sho had imagined, but he had accepted it after a while.
Jun could hear someone coming down the stairs and he turned immediately to get back into the room. From the corner of his eyes he could see his family disappearing in the dark.
“Hey, Bob, why are you meowing so loud down here?” Satoshi asked when he came downstairs. Jun hadn’t thought about the noises. He had forgotten that his meow would echo in the house.
Jun stepped to Satoshi and brushed around Satoshi’s legs.
Satoshi looked down at him and knelt next to Jun. “Are you lonely, little one?” Lonely? Jun had never been lonely, not with two stupid brothers next to him. He purred when Satoshi stroked Jun’s head. But a little bit more love wouldn’t have been bad at all, right? Jun had never found time to search for someone, because he didn’t know how to explain his job to anyone else.
And there weren’t many shape shifters around them. It would have been easy to share his life with someone who was same, but he wasn’t lucky at all. It seemed most of the shape shifters had given up because the evil would never be stopped, and they all started hiding, but Jun, Sho and Masaki had never thought about giving up. Maybe there was the small hope that they would find their parents one day, but they never thought about staying in the dark. And when they had found Nino some years ago, they were at least one more and adopted him to their family.
Jun meowed when Satoshi grabbed him and held him in his arms again. It really didn’t feel all that bad, just that Jun wasn’t Jun at the moment. He wished he would have had the chance to change into his human shape, but again nothing happened. He stayed like this.
“You aren’t allowed to go stairs with your hurt right side, but I take you along,” Satoshi said. Wait, taking him along? Where to? But before Jun could think about it, he was already in a small room upstairs with a tatami on the ground and a nightstand on the left side with some pictures on it. On the backside was a door leading to a balcony. It was definitely Satoshi’s bedroom.
Satoshi placed Jun on the ground and sat on his bed. “You can sleep here.” Jun gulped. He should sleep with someone else in a bedroom? But since he was in his animal body, it was okay, wasn’t it?
Jun thought for a moment what he should do and finally he stepped to the bed and lay down on the right side, not far away from Satoshi. His heart started beating faster and he had a feeling inside him, he didn’t know at all. Jun rolled down on the mattress and closed his eyes. Wasn’t it sad that he was over thirty and he had never experienced something like love? But he had never gotten the chance to feel something for someone.
He could feel Satoshi stroking his fur and Jun purred while he was dozing off.
“Masaki, Sho-kun, I have it, I have it,” Jun yelled through the house. He could see Masaki coming to the room, rubbing his eyes. He must have been out long at night, and it was probably because of work, like always. But now Jun would be part of it. He would finally be able to join them.
Masaki yawned. “You got what?”
Jun bounced up and down a bit and from upstairs he could see Sho approaching them. “You got your shape?” He asked.
Jun nodded enthusiastically. He could see Masaki’s face turning into a grin, and Sho stepped closer, his arm placed around Jun’s shoulder. “What are you?” Sho wanted to know.
“A cat, a black cat,” Jun said. This was what he had wished for, he wanted to be something elegant and dark looking.
He could see Masaki and Sho exchanging a look. “What?” Jun asked. He got nervous. He had never seen their mood changing so fast. They looked sad? “Don’t you want me to have my shape?” Jun asked stubbornly.
“No, no, it’s not that we don’t want you to have your animal body, Jun,” Sho said, but Jun could see that there was something his brothers didn’t talk about.
Masaki stepped closer, hugging his brother. “It’s mother’s shape,” he whispered at Jun.
Jun gulped. He couldn’t remember about his parents, because they had disappeared when he had been a baby, but he knew how rare it was that children got the same animal shape their parents had. “Mom’s?” Jun asked again.
He could see his brothers nodding at him, a small smile curling around their lips. “Sorry for the sad mood, Jun. It’s time to celebrate that you finally got your shape.” Sho tousled Jun’s hair.
Jun could see some small tears in Masaki’s eyes, and he really hoped his brother wouldn’t start crying now, because he really couldn’t stand this, but it was too late, some tears dropped down Masaki’s face. “I am so proud that we all have our shapes now, and that you are strolling around with us from now on.”
Jun grinned. “You are such a crybaby.” He could see Masaki’s dark glance, but he finally joined Jun’s grin.
“But you have to learn a lot, Jun-kun. We don’t stroll around for fun. We have a mission, and we have an important task to fulfil,” Sho explained. Jun didn’t know all the facts about what they were really doing at night, but he had a slight idea from what he had heard from his brothers already.
“You mean the fact that we commit a murder?” He asked and the other two just nodded at him.
Jun opened his eyes when he felt the sun tickling his nose. He stretched his body and winced when the pain on the right side started stinging again. He looked around. When had he moved? He lay on the pillow right next to Satoshi, his face only inches away. Jun observed him. He really looked good and his lips curled into a small smile. Jun stood up and looked around. The pictures on the nightstand showed Satoshi with a girl, and there were pictures of him with a black cat, and this cat really looked like Jun. The cat had emerald eyes and the eyes were piercing. Jun had the feeling that he knew this cat, but there were no other black cats he knew at all.
He walked to the window. From here he could see the trees on the other side, and he could definitely see Sho sitting on the tree, his head buried in his wing’s feathers. He was really sleeping here? Was he afraid that something might happen to Jun? He looked around and on the ground he could see Masaki and Nino sleeping under some wood, curled up together and at first Jun couldn’t say which part belonged to whom. They really waited here for him, and he was sure that his family wouldn’t leave him alone here.
Jun looked back. Satoshi was still sleeping and the door to the balcony was a little bit open. He slipped through it and sat at the border of the balcony. “What are you still doing here?” He whispered.
He could see Sho’s head appearing under his wing and Masaki and Nino rolled around before they looked up at him. “We couldn’t let you stay here alone,” Masaki said.
“Do you feel better?” Sho asked.
Jun sighed. Overprotected … that’s what he was. And sometimes he didn’t like it. “Yes, but you really have to go now.” Jun licked his lips. He looked around. “You know that it’s not good to be outside like this during days.”
“We know,” Nino said. “But we don’t like it, that you aren’t at home.” Jun tilted his head. “This man is really nice, and he takes care of me, so I will get healthy soon again.”
Jun didn’t look at Masaki, but he could see Masaki and Nino exchanging a grin. “A man you start liking, hm?” Masaki asked.
Jun glanced at him, but he couldn’t deny that Satoshi had woken up his interest. “It’s not your business.” Jun turned to walk inside again.
“Your butt is too fluffy to really let you appear angry,” Jun heard Masaki laughing and he turned to prick out his tongue before he walked back into the bedroom.
Luckily Satoshi seemed to have a deep sleep, because he didn’t wake up. Jun sat next to him. Was he really starting liking this guy? But how should he get closer to him, he was just a cat, at least at the moment.
“Oh, Bob, you are awake.” Satoshi smiled. And Jun definitely had to do something against this name. “Are you hungry?”
Jun meowed. Yes, he was hungry. “Okay, give me some minutes, I will be done by then.” Satoshi stood up and Jun turned to the balcony when Satoshi undressed in front of him. Oh god, this was more than embarrassing. He was just glad that Satoshi didn’t know that he was human after all. Satoshi slipped out of the room and headed to the door on the opposite. It must have been the bathroom.
Jun waited at the stairs, remembering that he wasn’t allowed to go them alone, and he really didn’t want to risk getting hurt more than he had already been. “Intelligent cat,” Satoshi chuckled and rose Jun up. He smelled freshly showered and some water drops fell from his hair on Jun’s head, but he couldn’t care less. This man was really smelling good, and Jun purred without even being stroked.
“I have some duck liver for you.” Satoshi stepped into the kitchen, with Jun on his arm. He sat him on the ground and opened the fridge, which was full of animal food. “This is my fridge for work,” he laughed. “I often have hurt animals here, so I always have something to eat for them.” Satoshi turned. “And sometimes I wonder why I tell the animals all this, because you can’t understand me.” He scratched his head. “Maybe my mom’s right and I should concentrate on finding friends, and not working all time, and spending my time with animals instead of people.” Satoshi knelt down. “But I like animals more than humans, because they are evil in the inside, at least most of them.” He patted Jun’s head.
He was right, some people were really bad, and some didn’t even deserve to be alive, like this guy from the day before, and if there wouldn’t have been this dog, Jun would have gotten him, but he got surprised by this dog.
“Here you have your food.” Satoshi placed the bowl with the liver in it in front of Jun and he had to hold his breath to not throw up. Raw liver – no, liver in general…how could someone eat something like this. He moved his ears, but he didn’t move closer to the bowl. Satoshi tilted his head. “You are really something. Are you just drinking milk?” He asked. “Like my old cat. She also just drank milk and didn’t eat something else at all. You could be relatives.”
Jun blinked. Relatives? What if…no, this wasn’t possible. His mother died long ago.
